Chris Brown Sentenced to Probation in Rihanna Assault Case

Chris Brown Sentenced to Probation in Rihanna Assault CaseThere will be no jail time for Chris Brown, 20, after a plea deal was agreed upon regarding the assault case against the singer that left pop diva Rihanna with bruises and cuts in February. Brown will be on 5-year probation apart from his 180-day community labor in Virginia. He will also be completing a year of domestic violence classes and be paying fines. "Mr. Brown, I think it's commendable that you took responsibility for your conduct," Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg stated.

In exchange to the plea agreement, Brown "pleaded guilty to felony assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury," People reported.

The hip hop singer should also not have any contact with Rihanna and should stay away from the Umbrella singer for at least 50 yards except during industry events wherein it is set for at least 10 yards away.

Brown was so thankful. His lawyer Mark Geragos mentioned, "He's very thankful to all the people who've been very supportive. This is a kid who's never been in trouble before, who wants to move past this and make sure that the message gets out that these kinds of things, of domestic violence, are not acceptable. And that he has accepted responsibility and continues to do so and embraces this as an opportunity for him to get his life back on track and his career back on track."

The formal sentencing of Chris Brown is scheduled on August 5. If he would violate his probation, he may spend four years in jail.
