Facebook Enhances Intelligence and Memory

Facebook Enhances Intelligence and MemoryAccording to Dr. Tracy Alloway, a psychologist from the University of Stirling in Scotland, Facebook makes one more intelligent. Twitter and Youtube, however, have the opposite effect diminishing people's ''working memory.''

Working memory refers to one's ''ability both to remember information and to use it, '' as reported by Telegraph.co.uk.

Dr. Alloway has been studying about working memory and its effects. In fact, she and her team created a working memory training program called ''JungleMemory'' that helped enhance the performance of children aged 11 to 14 at a school in Durham. The kids who underwent the training were able to get better scores in IQ, literacy and numeric tests.

She added that Facebook exudes the same effect as the video games, involving planning and strategy like the Total War series and Sudoku, since they improve the working memory of individuals.

''I'm not saying they're good for your socialization skills, but they do make you use your working memory,'' she declared. ''You're keeping track of past actions and mapping the actions you're going to take.''
