Overseas Workers with HIV Increase by 73% - Philippines

Overseas Workers with HIV Increase by 73 percent PhilippinesThis news is alarming! There’s a massive 73% increase in the number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This statistics is only for the first seven months of the year.

According to Arnel Ty, LPGMA party list representative, 166 overseas workers were diagnosed with HIV since January 2011 bringing the total HIV victims to 1,688.

Among the 166 new carriers, 141 are males while 25 are females. Ty also said OFWs have higher risk in falling into the pit of this deadly illness because prostitution is legalized in other countries.

The figure shows the reported incidents only. How about the unreported ones?
